Windle councillor hits back at advice not to back greenbelt protestors.

November 21, 2017

A senior parish councillor has hit out at official advice urging him not to support a campaign to save the borough’s greenbelt land. Coun Wally Ashcroft, a former mayor of St Helens, said he disagreed with advice from the Society of Local Council Clerks not to back the local green campaign. Minutes from a recent Windle Parish Council meeting state: “Coun Ashcroft did not agree with their advice to councillors regarding supporting the ‘save greenbelt campaign’. “Coun Barton reiterated that it was advice given to all councillors to ensure that any possible planning application would not be deemed as being pre-determined by the parish council.”
